Iridize Alternative: Nickelled

Iridize Alternative

Our honest review of Iridize

Iridize is built with simplicity in mind -- there are no bells and whistles, just a simple guide creation and management process. As an enterprise-grade product, it’s effectively the antithesis of WalkMe, which has so many options and configuration settings it’s hard to know where to start. As such, Nickelled is an excellent Iridize alternative – both focus on simplicity.

It's worth noting that Oracle acquired Iridize in September 2018 – the intention was to enhance Oracle's "Guided Learning" capabilities, to increase cloud adoption. However, Oracle has confirmed that it's reviewing the Iridize product roadmap and as such, it's unclear where support for non-Oracle applications will end up.

While Iridize’s technology is designed to allow the creation of guides without any javascript addition (in a similar manner to Nickelled), we found that in practice, guide creation could be a difficult and sometimes frustrating process. Using the Iridize Chrome extension, we managed to get a guide underway, but in honesty we struggled to add steps and save them successfully by clicking on page elements.

One neat feature we haven’t spotted on the guided tour landscape before is the Iridize Javascript API, which allows a deep level of integration with your web app and the advanced customization of triggering based on user actions. It may also be used to customize guides with dynamic content (for example, greeting users by name), which is a nice touch.

When should I choose Nickelled over Iridize?

Feature-wise, there isn’t a great deal to choose between Iridize and Nickelled -- both offer a simple experience, with standard guide features such as reporting, theme customization and multiple users. Nickelled offers the ability to create guides without using the Chrome extension, although a pop-up on the first load screen suggested that there are other options offered for Iridize users who don’t want to use Chrome.

With feature parity our honest view is that the choice may come down to usability -- and we’re fairly confident that as of October 2016, our guide creation process is easier to use and less frustrated when compared to Iridize. Please get in contact if you’ve had a different experience and believe this comment is no longer reflective of reality!

Iridize doesn’t list pricing on its pricing page, making it difficult to compare the costs of each respective solution. However, an old blog post on its site (now removed) used to state that plans begin from US$500 per month and pricing scales according to the number of end users. Only annual plans are supported.
